We bought one because of the Tahoe fire a month ago. AQI was 180 to 250. We also have a dog that sheds a lot. I bought an expensive AQI meter to test the Pure Blue. It brought the AQ down to 50 within a few hours. Tonight my wife was cooking tacos and burned the oil. The AQ went to 400+. I turned the Pure Blue on and within an hour the AQ was back to 50. It sounds like you have a defective unit, I would get a replacement and buy an AQI meter to see what's going on. JC

As our particulate matter (PM) sensors are very sensitive, high PM values can appear for many reasons: use of candles, smoke, cooking, incense, fireplace, smoking, cumulated dust, unfiltered vacuum cleaner, pollen, pets, etc. PM peaks are very common and normal, as long as they lower when the purifier is running.
