It really doesn't have a 'mopping' function. You can attach a Swiffer like attachment and have it mop as it goes. I did not try this before returning mine, but I would not expect it to know the difference between hardwood and carpeting, It couldn't even tell the difference between flooring and shadow on my kitchen floor.
