It will go back and charge when the battery gets low. That said, It's got a lot of juice. I can have it clean my entire 1200 sq foot space and not even use half of its charge.

It won't recharge and then resume working unless you have a schedule set up for it to clean at a certain time, if so, you can literally forget about him and he'll clean, recharge, and then continue cleaning as per his schedule.
