“Can you use tivo bolt or roamio with basic cable that does not include a cable box? My cable is directly connected to the TV, and I currently have no recording ability. Basic cable is included in the rental, and don't want an added monthly cable fee.”

TiVo needs a cable card....but if u are using only 1 TiVo box and with Comcast u don't get charge for the first primary cable card.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Check with your cable provider or the TiVo website. The TiVo box accepts cable cards for the purpose you describe, but you'll want to be sure your provider is compatible. I don't use TiVo this way, am aware of it from doing my research on dvr's.
