The control buttons will be located under the counter once the dishwasher is installed.

Hi Andrew, thank you for your question and interest in Model:SHXM4AY55N. The Control Buttons on this Dishwasher are not waterproof. It is suggested that you keep the Dishwasher closed when cooking or working with running water.
