The door is unfinished, it’s like how your car door would be if you removed the interior door panel. It’s meant to have a decorative panel attached. The unfinished panel is black but cannot be left as is. The door doesn’t stay open on its own as without a decorative panel it lacks sufficient weight to remain in the open position.

Hi Jack, thanks for your interest in model SGV78B53UC. Custom panel units do not come with a completed front panel. They are designed so that they can be decorated to match your other kitchen appliances/cabinets, so you can choose to design a black panel if you wish.
