It really depends on how the music is encoded for the portable device. At a high bit rate (320kbps) they should be very comparable to a home stereo with, say, a CD playing.

So far, I've ONLY been using them to listen to my streaming Spotify playlist -wirelessly- through my iPhone 6Plus, AND while watching (and listening to) my HD TV wirelessly late at night -while everyone else in the household slept soundly. If anything, it makes everything I've listened to sound amazingly more satisfying!

These sound great with just an iPod. You can get pretty immersive sound and it helps flush out a few of the levels, I'm not disappointed by these at all!
