Whether or not you will hear a baby crying from the other room depends on such things such whether you are listening to music at the time, how solid the walls are in your house, and whether or not the door to the next room is closed. In general wearing these headphones has about the same effect as putting your fingers in your ears; outside noises don't completely disappear but they are very muffled. I wear these headphones while studying and can still hear things around me, but the noise level is very reduced and less distracting. The headphones use a micro USB cable to charge. If you lose the cable that comes with the headphones any micro USB cable will do and replacements cables can be purchased for a few dollars. Most of the time I charge my headphones by plugging them into my cellphone charger or a USB port on my laptop. on a side note, the sound quality of these headphones is absolutely amazing! I have been using them on a daily basis for about 2 years and don't know how I ever lived without them.
