“Can I disable Bluetooth, with ANC on, if I don't want to listen to anything or does the wire always have to be connected to disable Bluetooth? Want to extend battery life if I am sleeping during long flights.”

Yes. I don't use B/T most of the time and have noticed that I can turn the ANC on when I am walking to another room to get my iPod, and it is immediately active. In this scenario, I am anticipating using the corded connection, so I know for a fact that B/T is not connected, and neither is the cord.
