Both, sort of... yes it comes with a carrying case and it's soft on the inside and can hold the included charging cable and 1/8" stereo cable. The case is somewhat hard in order to protect the headphones, but it's not so strong as to be crushproof if you put something heavy on it, for example, so don't do that :)
