I was in the same place as you are and wanted good integration. My applications uses the HDMI/ARC connection from a Samsung TV. If you use the Direct TV remote to turn on your TV and Direct box the Bose Speaker will come on after a few second delay, mute your tv speakers, and then will be controllable for volume with your direct TV remote. Thats the way mine works. Also the Bose remote works the satellite box for most features as well so either will work the way you want. Or you can get Alexa to help you switch over to play music or other features by voice. All works very well together.
