If by "app" you're talking about control for your music (forward, repeat, play, pause, volume up/down), then yes, you can control the music from the Apple Watch. You can even take phone calls while working out.

These work incredibly well with my Apple Watch Series 2. My old earbuds would not connect well when I wore my watch on my left hand.. pain. These work perfectly. 

The app is on your phone, but you do not need it to connect to your watch. Just go to setting/Bluetooth and connect to them there. No need for the app on your watch.

Paired well and worked well the first week. Like many others I had a left earbud fail. Some kind of wiring issue if you buy these purchase the insurance.

I have them paired with my Samsung GearFit2 and it works great. Sometimes it cuts out a little bit if my wrist gets too far out of the line of sight, but I think that's a problem with my fitness watch and not the headphones as I never experience the connectivity issues while it's hooked up to my phone, no matter where my phone is.

I used these with my iPhone without any issues connecting them for use when running. I am not sure about an Apple Watch. However, I am on my third pair, due to defects, and this set just became defective today as well. The time frame for these issues is about one month. I was interested in replacing them again, because they sound so good when they work, but they are not available to purchase at any Best Buy stores or online at the moment. I am not sure what I will do at this time.
