Must the tv be bluetooth for the soundbar to work? I see an "optical" port next to the traditional speaker plugs but it does not day digital audio. It just says "optical". Is that enough to make this soundbar work? null

No, you can connect via an optical connection.

The SoundBar has an Optical Connection but 
it is better to connect it to the TV via HDMI Cable
that way you can control the sound with the TV control.
I beleive the sound quality is better than bluetooth that way as well.
