Because of the open-ear design, they cannot function as noise-cancelling earbuds. When you’re in noisy environments, they’re pretty much useless—even at the loudest volume. But, at the gym, they should work alright while still letting you hear your surroundings.

These earbuds do not feature active noise cancellation, but they’re built with OpenAudio technology, which delivers surprisingly rich and private sound while still allowing you to stay aware of your surroundings. That makes them ideal for environments like the gym, where situational awareness is important. However, because they don’t block out external noise, you will still hear background music or chatter in the gym. The earbuds are designed to sit just outside your ear canal, so they won’t isolate sound like in-ear or over-ear models. That said, many users find the audio performance strong enough to enjoy their own music without needing full isolation. Gem - Bose Customer Support
