I have hidden receivers under the television in console cabinets with fabric doors or glass doors so remote signal still gets through... even better; if possible, hide in a closet. But you will need either a very close closet or buy long cables. By far the best and cleanest solution though. As for remote controls with the closet solution, RF based ones should still work (like TiVo), but one can also purchase remote control signal extenders online.
