They are both correct. Technically (according to Dolby Labs), you need 5 speakers plus one subwoofer to playback a movie in surround sound. This includes the use of a center channel. However, Dolby also knows that not everyone can do this so there are features in audio video receivers that will take the center channel part of the soundtrack and re-route it to your mains. This means that both salespeople are correct. That said, the best way to implement a home theater system is to use a dedicated center channel speaker. This means you should buy three of the speakers we are discussing.
