Yes, you will need cone filters # 4, you can get it on Target or any store

It comes with a reusable coffee filter which works very well, so no need for paper filters. It has a water filter which is optional. It comes with one cartridge which will last 1 or 2 months. I don't think I will worry about replacing it.

1. The charcoal water filter is optional, but recommended by Braun for improved coffee flavor. The unit comes with one filter cartridge, which should last about 2 months. After that you will need to buy additional cartridges. 
2. Also, the unit comes with a metal wire mesh conical filter, which requires cleaning every time you use it. If you want to use disposable paper filters (#4) instead, you need to buy those. 
3. Finally, Braun recommends periodic de-scaling, which means buying descaling solution.
