Hello, Edie. The highest temperature the pizza dial goes is 480 degrees. Since it's not too far off from the 500 degrees that your husband wants, you can still use the 480 degrees for about ten minutes longer, depending on how many toppings there are. Meats could be par-cooked to shorten cooking time, although it's not necessary. No toppings equal less cooking time, of course. For the first time, watch the pizza to check when it's done and get the cooking time right. Thereafter, the dial is automatically set for the cooking time, so you don't have to remember. So clever!
