The outside of the oven does get very hot. The handle, not so much. I just place my oven near an opened window so that it will cool off faster.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The outside of the oven gets fairly warm to the touch. However the handle does not heat up. It is recommended that you do not leave anything on top of the oven while cooking to avoid anything heating up and possibly melting. Breville sells a cutting board that fits the oven perfectly and helps you avoid touching the top of the oven while it is hot. Plus it has elevated feet. So it allows the air to ventilate while cooking.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The handle does not get. However, the top and sides do get hot to the touch when you are using it to bake and Air Fry. I plan on getting the Breville bamboo cutting board once they are in stock again. It is designed with silicone feet so you can put it on top of the oven even when hot. We have loved using this oven to cook side dishes this past Thanksgiving and many other items since. We have been very pleased with it's peformance.

When baking something recently, the sides got warm but not hot or anything. The rear didn't seem to get any warmer than expected, nor was the front. The air grills are on the left and right side only, so that's where most of the heat escapes. My oven sits on my counter and there's nothing above it. The handle is metal so it doesn't retain heat. It was cool to the touch even during operation.

Please try again later.The handle does not get hot and while I would not touch the outside of the oven while using the bake features, it won't hurt you if you touch it briefly. It does not heat up the space around it, just become warm to the touch (similar to how the top of a toaster oven would be hot).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.When you use broil setting the oven really gets hot and you could see the smoke coming out of the oven. I bake several times and the handle did not get hot. So far I am happy with the air oven.
