It honestly depends. I have seen this particular printer going for $250ish in places plus shipping. I am thrilled I found this at this price from a reputable company

That is what brother suggests to retailer to make it more sellable. They can charge whatever they feel. Usually factors such as shipping, retail location, overhead and demographics effect pricing structures.
