“Is there a way to set it up with out the CD-ROM? My laptop doesn't have a CD-ROM slot. I haven't opened the printer yet and I'm hoping I don't have to return it because I can't use the CD-ROM to install it. Hopefully there's an online option.”

Yes, this printer can be setup without a cd rom. I had the same issue with my daughters laptop not having a cd rom. I went to the brothers website and downloaded the install files. I manually setup the wifi on the printer and the downloaded software found the printer right away. You can also use the supplied USB cable.
