• No, a optional paper tray is not available for MFC-J497DW. The manual feed slot maximum input ADF 8.5"/14" and minimum input ADF 5.8"/5.8".

• I print 300 8.5x11 pages a month and there is room to spare in the tray. Maybe your paper size is larger
