Yes, this can be connected and print from your phone using: AirPrint®, Google Cloud Print™, Brother iPrint&Scan, Mopria®, Wi-Fi Direct®

Yes it automatically gets recognized by iOS devices when you have it connected to the same WiFi as your phone. Not sure about how Android devices work with it but it does also support Google Cloud Print so I would imagine it would be a similar experience.
