“How many inches of clearance does this need underneath? I understand it can't be put in as a built in, and can't be enclosed below, but what if we leave it open and create minimum clearance below? What is that minimum amount of open space?”

This model is designed to be installed over a range. We cannot advise installing the unit in any other configuration, as such a set up will not have been tested for safety and reliability. We can advise the microwave’s overall height is 16 5/16”. There should be 30” minimum from the cooktop surface to the top of the microwave once installed, so 13 11/16” should be between the bottom of the microwave and the cooking surface. For more information about the mounting space, you can view page 6 of the installation instructions; those instructions are available when you look up the model number on our Café Appliances website and go to the product’s page.
