Hi, Thanks for the questions! We appreciate your interest and we'd like to help. We found that the timer can be used for both the upper and lower ovens at the same time. As for the racks, only the 2 black grates may remain in the oven during the self-clean cycle. Any nickel plated (silver) rack should be removed. If they're left in the in the oven during this process, the racks will tarnish. You can find more info on page 21 of your use and care manual.
