Thanks for checking with us. Yes, the outlet shouldn't be on the floor and a new cord would need to be installed. We recommend consulting with an electrician. Note: You will need a 4-Wire or 3-Wire cord. The recommended acceptable electrical outlet area is shown in the installation instructions. You'll want to orient the electrical receptacle, so the length is parallel to the floor. It should be 2 1/4 inches from the cabinets on the right or left side. Joyce@CafeAppliances
