“The ink cartridge I have is for a Canon Pixma MX492. Is the 245 cartridge compatible with this printer or do I have to order the 243. The 243 does not come in XL and I wanted the XL b/c ink lasts longer. Thanks.”

That's what I use is 245 XL and 246 XL. 245 is black, and 246 is color. You have probably already found that out by now, but just in case. My printer is the same as yours.

These larger cartridges are much more economical to use as replacements, but the printer does initially comer with the smaller standard size. I believe these XL cartridges will work with this whole series of printers.
