• I can't really answer your question. I sent a fax while my land line was not working and it went threw. I guess the wireless kicked in.

• Yes to my knowledge it needs a phone line for faxing. If you have cable, the jack can come from your modem and run to printer. The extension jack is if you have an answering machine that will be connected to the printer.
