“Is the scanning function wireless or do I need a cable to connect with my desktop?”

• Everything about it is wireless. I have the printer 20 feet away from the computer and all you have to do is install the software on the computer and follow the setup. Make sure the computer and printer is on the same WiFi network. Printing, scanning, faxing is all done wirelessly. Also, I like the way the front panel automatically opens when the printer starts printing.
