• yes you can set it up without a laptop completely I did it on my Galaxy Note 9

• You don't need a cd drive. You can set up the printer on-.line without using the provided CD

• you can also go to their website and do a web setup http://ij.start.canon Follow the online instructions

• Get a external USB cd/dvd drive or better yet download the drivers from the internet and run them from you hard drive or memory card
