YES, it will empty the ink cartridge. And, NO, it will not stop printing. WARNING: don't try to print with an empty cartridge - you will probably damage the print head and need to buy a new printer (I think a new printer is cheaper than replacing the print head). The Canon PIXMA TR8520 will NOT print unless there is an ink cartridge (empty or not) in EACH slot. If you have run out of ink in a cartridge, you should NOT continue printing - Canon warns "Be observant of print quality and fill any cartridge as soon as it runs dry. Printing with an empty cartridge will soon cause print head nozzles to overheat and fry remaining ink solid." So, if you must continue to print, use the "Printing Preferences" dialog, the "PAGE SETUP" tab, the "PRINT OPTIONS...", "Print With:" option, and then select the appropriate option to avoid using the empty cartridge: "All Colors (Default)", "All except PGBK (Black)", or "Only PGBK (Black)".
