A) NO, you do not need WiFi to print. Yes, you can print without a network directly to your cell phone. The instructions for using Bluetooth to print on the Canon PIXMA TR8520 inkjet printer can be found here: https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART168455 B) Although I use the Canon PIXMA-TR8520 printer wired to my LAN, I experimented printing via Bluetooth as per the instructions in step (A) above before I wrote this reply - it worked great with my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge... however, the on-line Canon manual warns: "**NOTE For iOS devices: Printing and scanning via Bluetooth is not available." But... C) It appears that the warning is no longer true because I found this info at the bhphotovideo website (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1356594-REG/canon_2233c002_tr8520_wireless_office_all_in_one.html/qa) - The TR8520 has "built-in USB 2.0, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0 LE connectivity, so you can easily connect a smartphone or mobile device for direct printing and scanning." One reviewer wrote: "Compatible with iPad, iPhone or iPod touch devices running iOS 9.0 or later, or Android mobile devices running Android 5.1 or later, with Bluetooth hardware enabled. For full print functionality Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app must be open and paired to use Bluetooth functions, available for free on the App Store and at Google Play. Bluetooth communication and functionality cannot be guaranteed on all Android devices."
