• I experienced that with my TR8520 Pixma AIO printer and found a conflict between photo, scanning and printing settings. Also, Check black ink level and refill if low.

• It scans dark enough for me, yes. When scanning black and white print, the scanned image looks identical to the original (ink color). Black lines on originals are equally black in printed or viewed copies.
