It depends on what you are printing and how much you are printing. If your documents are B&W then your black cartridge will run out first. If you do color documents then depending on color selection, those cartridges will run out. If you are printing color photos, you will use up ink more quickly. The cost for replacement cartridges are $70+ for a full set. They do sell the cartridges separately in groups also.
