If you are trying to get into photography, I would save the money and get the SX530 or SX60 as a stepping stone to a DSLR EOS series or better. This camera is good for about the 15-20 foot range at most, digital zoom leaves a little to be desired and is not the fastest shutter speed by any means.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think so, I bought this camera for my 15y/o daughter to take to camp as phones weren't allowed and she came back with some great pictures.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you do not own a Smartphone then yes. If you do, then no. This point and shoot camera doesn't have that great of a picture quality.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would say this is the perfect camera for a point and shoot. I have the 160, which comparing specs seems identical to the ELPH 180. I've taken hundreds of picture, and yes, some are better than others, but that's true of any camera The zoom, however, gets VERY shaky at full closeup; very hard to get a good shot by just holding it. My solution is to use a tripod, though that can get tiresome. The view screen is impossible to see in bright sunlight, so you really are 'pointing and shooting' at that point. I love the size and durability; I can throw it in my pocket and with the retractable lens, don't have to worry about scratching that. I don't really care about the back, as it's durable in the first place. The only thing that gets me EVERY single time is replacing the battery. I can never seem to put it in the right way the first time. Speaking of the battery, it lasts longer than I thought it would. I am looking forward to getting an SLR, but for now, this is a highly satisfying piece of equipment. I'm going to see if I can upload some pics. I love this thing! A tripod is a must for close-ups and portraits shots,
