If you already own the EF f/1.4 and adapter, then I wouldn’t upgrade until the adapter or lens breaks. As far as the EF-S 40mm f/2.8, that is a crop sensor lens while the RF 50mm is full sensor lens. With the 1.5 crop factor it will be like a 60mm lens on full frame camera. So the shot will be slightly tighter than the RF 50. The RF 50 will have an extra stop of light available to it so it should perform slightly better in low light situations compared to the f/2.8.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I owned both of those two lenses. They are very good lens, but sold them out and get the RF 50 f/1.8 when I bought my R6. The quality of RF50mm is far better in low light then the 24mm pancake due the 1.8. The EF 50mm 1.4 has old motor and noisy when you video. The focus is much slower than the new RF50 version. You don't need to spend any extra dollars if you just take a still picture. The only problem I have with them is that they are bulky when you have them mount to RF system, even the 24mm pancake lens is bulkier than this new nifty 50. It take less space and lighter when travel.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The lens hasn't come out yet. All we can see are the preview videos on YouTube made by Canon Ambassadors. So, can't really tell if it's better than the EF version. You'll have to wait until Dec 10th for expert reviews.
