Yes the camera has a pretty good mic on the camera. You can also adjust the volume of those mics in the menu. I use the external mic jack to connect the sound track directly into the camera so I can control the volume with a sound board. I connect the receiver of a wireless mic to the camera and the transmitter to the sound board. You can also purchase a shoe mic that rides on top of the camera to improve the mics on the camera.
