There are 2 pieces to this unit one goes on garage door in corner top and one mounted. Mine is on ceiling next to motor where outlet is at facing towards the garage floor. The base station does need to plug in.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It could be mounted vertically without a problem. Think of this as a wifi controlled garage remote. Its orientation does not matter. The only reason they was it mounted horizontal is because that big thing in the center is a light. The light flashes when you close the door using the myq app. The light acts as a visual warning that the door is about to move.
