Thank you for reaching out. Yes you can use wood chips with the Patio Bistro to enhance your cooking experience. The Infrared grate on the Patio Bistro is comprised of peaks and valleys. If you have some open space wood chips can be laid in the valleys to create that smoke goodness. You can also use a small smoker box that would sit on top of your grate like item #827269, model #2784804P.
