There is no timer feature so you cannot set it ahead of time. I have the pot setup the night before and in the morning then I just have to push one button to get the water heating. I have never made milk tea in this kettle so I cannot really answer that question. Certainly after the tea has brewed, you could remove the infuser and add milk to the kettle to stay warming on the electric pad.
