“does it have a plastic rim on the bottom of the pot where you boil water? I saw one at a different store same brand and has a plastic looking rim side on the bottom unless that rim is also made of glass?”

I think the plastic base is under the glass so water doesn't contact it when boiling.

Our kettle has a stainless steel rim on the bottom. The very bottom of the kettle that sits on the base is made on some type of heat resistant composite material.

The heat element is enclosed and attached to the base of the glass portion of this kettle. The base it sits on is a small disc with the electrical connection in the center.
