No.  The little pump catcher is a little shelf that just sits in place and is very easy to remove & clean without taking the entire attachment off.  Buy it, you won't regret it!

It can easily be lifted out for cleaning just by lifting it up from its resting place. Once cleaned, just sit it back on its little guides and juice away!

no, you dont have to remove the whole unit. it just sits there, you can remove as often as possible.. the holes are really tiny, it fills really quick.. usually after juicing just 2 oranges or just 2 grapefruits, its filled and overflows.. i dont use the pulp catcher, i like the pulp in my juice.. in the end the seeds justs floats on top of the juice.. i take a spoon and remove them.

The pulp catcher is easily removed from the unit. It is a small tray that lifts completely out to empty.
