No it does not alert you to stopped vehicles or lane departure. No it is not battery operated you plug into cigerette lighter. I had mine installed at Best Buy where they ran it under the headliner so you dont see the cords. I love it. It goes on when you start the car and turns off after you stop and it doesnt see any more motion. You just install and forget about it until that day when something happens and you need video to prove your point, then this thing is priceless!!
