• The plate has thermal paste already applied. The plate has a plastic protective cover on it so that the paste does not smear -- not to be removed until you are ready to secure the plate to the Motherboard. I installed the cooler with the pre-applied paste and my I9-9900K temperatures are 27C to 28C at idle and have not exceeded 65C when I have run stress tests at 100% CPU utilization. So I would say that the thermal paste is working just fine. I would recommend getting some thermal paste at some point in case you decide to move the cooler to another build.
