Hi Matthew, Mechanical Cherry MX switches would describe the company and the type of switches used, red switch meaning Cherry MX red switches are used on this model. You cannot set this keyboard to do what you mention as this keyboard is not RGB. If you have any other questions, please reach out: support.corsair.com
