While most thermal pastes can last four years, it is typically best practice to repaste about every two years, or immediately after removing the cooler.

However the shelf life of inactive thermal paste that is not in use is 1 year. Be aware that the efficiency of the paste goes down over time. So a paste that is in operation for 2 years will run better than one that runs at 4. It is best to monitor if your cpu is getting too hot. It is recommended 4 because the loss in conductivity is considered enough that waiting longer is no longer worth.
