If you install this inside of the PS5, which is pretty simple to do, you will be able to install and play PS5 games on it. If it's put inside of an enclosure, and plug in via USB, it will only work for PLAYING PS4 games and temporarily STORING PS5 games. You can move PS5 games to this drive by USB and store them to make room on the main drive and later move back to the main drive to actually play them. I hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I've put this SSD in a Sabrent external enclosure and connected it to the Ps5 via USB C port in the front. I've copied games over to it from console storage, and after it would finish, it would say that the SSD didn't get removed properly, prompting me to either restart the PS5 to repair the external SSD or me just disconnecting it without safely removing it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you're talking external as in plugging into the usb port then no it won't play games off it. Put a heatsink on it and install it into the expandable slot in the PS5, then yes it will play games off it.
