The X8 is compatible with just about anything you'd want to connect to it, ranging from Windows and macOS to iPad Pro, Xbox, Chromebook, and Android devices. (You may need another adapter in order to connect to Androids, and keep in mind that you'll want a USB 3.1 Gen 2—also known as USB 3.2 Gen 2—connection to get the most throughput with any device.)

So, downloads from Chromebook?   Should be no problem whatsoever.

If you were to have an unusual problem of some kind, you also have the flexibility of reformatting the drive into formats made available by your specific operating system.
