“Is the water filter holder suppose to fit all the way to the botton of its slot in the reservoir? Mine will not go all the way to the bottom leaving a 1/4" gap or so between the bottom of the filter and the bottom of the slot.”

I don't think the coffee maker will work unless the reservoir is snug in the bottom. That happened to me once, but after the reservoir was put in properly I had no problems.
