Must it be plugged to be turners on? null

Hello Catia, Thank you for your question. This UPS unit will need to be plugged into utility power in order to be powered on the first time. This is due to the cold start lock feature that prevents the unit from being powered on without being connected to utility power. This is in place to prevent the UPS from powering on during shipment.
